Thinking Anglicans

American news roundup

Religion News Service has this report by Daniel Burke Episcopal Bishop Keeps Her Cool in the Hot Seat.

Episcopal News Service has reports of some areas of trouble:

The Living Church has a rather confusing headline on Dissident Groups Organize to Oppose Diocesan Departures.

From the Albany Times-Union there is House of Deputies president visits Albany as church faces rift. Note: I can’t reach that site at present, but there is a copy of the article here.

And Via Media USA has a Schism Quiz.

To see how Fr Jake applies this to Fort Worth, read this article.

Father Jake’s piece is priceless. I note in the comments that others are also appreciating that a diocese and its bishop are not the same thing. Mind you, I am again reminded of personal observations and that Church of Sweden write up a few months ago. There are some bishops who do attempt to “run a tight ship” and are more vehement in ensuring doctrinal uniformity within their dioceses. They certainly don’t condone “broad tent” Anglicanism, or a lot of other things that have traditionally attracted many to Anglicanism over the centuries. Compare ++KJS’s “cool” with +++RW’s *detachment* (CofE’ers, ENVY on your part would be entirely forgiveable! ;-/)

Nice essay from Real Live Preacher http://www.reallivepreacher.com/node/1472 …. “But now, see, the ones who thought homosexuality was a really bad thing were getting tired of the changes. It seemed like you hardly heard a hymn in church anymore, and people were dressing sloppy on Sundays, and women were preaching, and you could hardly find a King James Bible anywhere. JCF That’s a great insight. No “detachment” whilst the bishops beat up their dioceses, insult their societies and drive away their members for being “unrepentant sinners”. Gee, it sounds like the US TEC are taking responsibility for their actions and their existence (thus transcending Adam and Chevas’ duck shoving and scapegoating strategies). Maybe that is why they picked up the Millenium Development Goals ahead of most of the rest of the Anglican Communion? (After all, we all know Africa is numerically bigger than the rest of us). Hmm, I wonder who Rowan was referring to when he said some players… Read more »

A further development in the Diocese of Central Florida involves the formation of a new group called FaithReceived. Excerpts from the e-mail announcement are below: -quote- How is FaithReceived related to CFLAAC (Central Florida American Anglican Council)? Some of our members were part of CFLAAC; others who have recently joined FaithReceived were not. Whereas the CFLAAC leadership continues among those who are disaffiliating from The Episcopal Church, we are not disaffiliating. Why do we need another “special interest group?” We hope FaithReceived can help energize the clergy and laity in our diocese to support our Bishop, build our diocese, and… Read more »
