Bishop of Shrewsbury to leave

The Area Bishop of Shrewsbury in the diocese of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Mark Rylands, has announced that he has chosen to leave his role for a return to parish ministry in Exeter Diocese. He will continue as Bishop of Shrewsbury until July when there will be a special farewell service. He will then take up his new role as a Priest-in-Charge of the Ashburton and Moorland Team in Exeter Diocese, where he will also be an Assistant Bishop.

Further details are on the Lichfield diocesan website.

Very best wishes to Mark.

So, who will now represent Brexit on the Bench? Thankfully, the vast majority of those bench sitters who remain see the absolute folly of our leaving the E U.

This is awesome for Ashburton and the surrounding villages. They have 1.5 priests for 9 parishes including some right up on top of the cross moor road and the 1 priest has been in poor health for some time. There is a lot of positivity coming from my friends up on the moor about his appointment

Excellent news – Mark’s return will be most welcome in Devon, and it’s great that he will be devoting his energies and ministry to rural ministry on the ground.
