Thinking Anglicans

Sydney Anglicans: more reactions to Muriel Porter's book

We first reported on Sydney Anglicans and the threat to world Anglicanism at the end of August. Now here’s an update.

The coverage at ABC in Australia in response to the original excerpt from the book continued: in addition to the article Serious flaws in Muriel Porter’s misguided polemic by Mark Thompson previously linked, there was also another one by Michael Jensen, Are Sydney Anglicans actually Anglicans? and another by Peter Kurti It’s Anglicanism, Jim, but not as we know it.

Later, Bruce Kaye wrote about all this in Terms of engagement in Anglican war of words.

Now, Anglican Media Melbourne has published two articles: a news report on the book launch by Roland Ashby Sydney’s ‘harsh sectarianism’ a threat to church and a review of the book by Alan Nichols Exposing the agenda of the Sydney Diocese.

And, in England, John Richardson has written a review for New Directions which can be read here.

The pages of ‘Anglican Media Melbourne’ seem to have got scrambled and are mostly unreadable.

Curious that Alan Nichols, author of “Exposing the agenda of the Sydney Diocese” is a canon of St John’s Cathedral, Gahini, Rwanda, Rwanda being a principal begetter of the AMiA incursion.

It probably depends what browser you are using. After a few years of calm, we’re entering browser / web standards turmoil again.

I found Alan Nichols’ interpretation of Dr.Muriel’s book most enlightening – and further evidence of the Sydney trajectory within the Communion. There can be little doubt that Archbishop Jensen’s personal support for the GAFCON bishops had much to do with the schismatic tendency of that constituency. Regarding Lapinbizarre’s comment about Alan Nichols’ canonry in Rwanda: There are many clergy who were formerly working in G.S. Provinces – before the present divisions on gender & sexuality in the Communion – who now wish that things were progressing differently in their former fields of missionary endeavour. Can anyone enlighten us as to all the family connections in the diocese of Sydney? They do all seem related to each other, which is very curious …?

@ G.H.C.W.

There are quite a few Jensens in the Sydney Diocese. It is sometimes called the cult of ‘Jensenism’. The brother of the Archbishop is Dean of the Cathedral.
