Thanks so much for Antonia Honeywell’s “Cautionary Tale for Justin Welby”, a cautionary tale for the rest of us as well. It may be cautionary, but it’s a hopeful tale. It gives one hope that some day our church will get past the pro and con encyclicals
of competing pontifices and synods, and that a common sense consensus fidelium will bring peace with justice within our walls.

Antonia Honeywell’s Letter to Archbishop Welby was well-founded. What surprised me was the fact that the ‘Christian’ psycho-therapist – who had been dismissed from her post as a result of illegally guaranteeing the ‘cure’ of a homosexual man – was allowed to harangue a worshipping congregation at a family service about her conviction that homosexuals are ‘evil’. Furthermore, until she was interrupted by Mrs Honeywell, she wanted to encourage the congregation to pray for the overturning of her conviction! Antonia Honeywell’s is a heartening piece. Important that as many of us ‘heterosexuals’ as possible should say loud and clear: ‘not in our name’.

“God’s best plan? Who knows a thing about God’s best plan? Isn’t that just to love our neighbours as ourselves? To judge not, lest we be judged? If we do anything other than that, we are buying into the very discrimination and bigotry we claim to abhor.”

I agree with Fr. Ron about the unsuitability of allowing such an address in church. In my experience, psychotherapists who make a point of billing themselves as “Christian” can cause a lot of mischief.

Antonia Honeywell speaks more sense and with more Christian compassion than the entire House of Bishops put together.
