It seems we are getting new Bishops announced every other day at the moment! It could mean that all the most suitable men have been given jobs before the CNC starts work next year. Of course, if General Synod keeps to schedule then the pool of candidates they can draw from will have expanded by then.

Yes indeed, just over a week ago we had eleven unfilled suffragan sees, now we have but six! Although I suppose chickens ought not to be counted until they have been consecrated…

Why do they flaunt their PGCEs? I don’t think mine is worth a docken. And just think what a Greek Play Bishop could offer in its place.

My word, Justin is going to have his work cut out on St. James’ Day consecrating, Barking, Colchester and now Grimsby. A trinity of new bishops, what better day to set off on their episcopal ministry than on the day dedicated to the patron saint of all Christian pilgrims.

Who will be the first diocesan bishop brave (or sensible) enough to say he will put a suffragan vacancy on hold in order that he can consider both male and female candidates?

Not much in the way of fishing left in Grimsby these days, just titanium dioxide, low pay and foodbanks. Given that the new +David (the third David Grimsby in a row) comes from Cromer we expect him to be a blogger (obscure Norfolk reference). More seriously, it will be interesting to see how this appointment goes. I can’t remember when this diocese last had a bishop who was not out of the moderate catholic tradition, but as I understand it +Grimsby pending is Oak Hill and very much out of the Evangelical stable. It’ll be quite a departure for this… Read more »

Three + David Grimsbys in a row, I can only think that can be trumped by 5 + John Chelmsfords in a row, the line of John’s only coming to an end with the appointment of the present bishop -+ Stephen. Can any other See top Chelmsford with a longer continuous line of bishops all bearing the same Christian name?
