Comments: Synod papers

I see that more moves to centralise power in the hand of Bishops and the Diocese are again suggested under GS 1593: Review of Clergy Terms of Service: Property Issues and Progress Report.

Having taken the right curtail freehold (and hence clergy independence) they now want the parish's church and property too!

Hardly the time... in the current circumstances.

I can't begin to imagine how you deduce this conclusion from the data.
What has actually happened is the exact opposite.
Whereas, the previous proposal concerning property was not well received by Synod, now a new report proposes *no change* be made in respect of churches, and that much more moderate changes be made in respect of parsonage houses. In relation to the latter, the dioceses are already almost entirely responsible for their upkeep.
This report is in fact a U-turn on the earlier one.
