I liked Strange's article. There are many parts of the bible where God talks of levelling the path, or removing roadblocks. I love God's promise in Isaiah 49:11 "I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways will be raised up." Leviticus 19:14-15 is also excellent. A word search for "stumbling" brings up some excellent passages. Romans 9:32-33 is fun for those who know the joke. Then there is Paul's writing Romans 14:13 "Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s (or sister's) way."

There's a nice link back to Linzey's article by way of a passage recently referred to on Moses' exortations in Exodus 23:1-9 on the Laws of Justice and Mercy - which includes (23:5). "If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it."

Andrew Linzey's piece in The Times is a good read.

Nice to find a theologian who is so much the master of his field that he can make one interested in something that is essentially quite uncomfortable to all carnivores. .
