Comments: Safeguarding: follow-up to Chichester

At last the Church of England gets round to facing its responsibilities in this area. When in 2002 CTBI published its clear report on these issues entitled 'Time for Action' the Methodist Church bought a copy for each member of Conference and instructed its officers at Central Methodist House to come to Conference with plans to act on the Report. The RC Church, faced by Nolan, took it very seriously and the Salvation Army bought copies to train its leaders each year. Other churches took similar action. The wife of the Bishop of Chichester was the C of E safeguarding half time staff member. She said the Bishops could not be expected to take note of an Ecumenical report! David Gamble ( Chair) and I ( Secretary) went to speak at a fringe meeting at General Synod which was attended by 5 persons!

Now at last the C of E wakes up!
