Comments: Chair of the Business Committee

Quite a competitive election, with 5 candidates, and what looks like a Single Transferable Vote (STV) voting system.

The final result is interesting; the 2 candidates who reached the final run-off were Sue Booys (who won with 187 votes) comfortably beating the runner up Gerald O'Brien (113 votes).

Mr O'Brien is a conservative; he voted strongly against women bishops, proposed in July 2010 General Synod an amendment which was not even voted on whereby every PCC would have been forced to vote every 5 years on a (no women) Letter of Request and, in the July 2008 debate on women bishops "drew boos and hisses" (Guardian 8 July 2008) when he raised the possibility of (GAFCON style) "episcopal oversight from overseas bishops".

Canon Booys, on the other hand, seems to be a more centrist and conciliating figure.
