It is not gays that are tearing apart the Anglican Communion. It is anti-gays who purport it is being torn apart. The reputation of some parts of Anglicanism is not based on its support or opposition to gays or women (whether that be marriage, in roles as priests or teachers). In parts of the world their reputation is in tatters based on condoning and institutionalising sociopathic behaviour, particularly the aiding and abetting pedophiles. Sociopaths don't care about others' feelings, from molesting and murdering children, to insulting and dehumanising women, to dismissing the validity of life on this planet or for non-Christians. There are two books, one of Life and one of Death. The book of Life has won every single day on this planet since humanity has existed. It has not lost once - otherwise humanity would already be extinct.
With photos and videos coming out of Holy Russia of skinheads abducting, torturing, and murdering gay teenagers (and then boasting about it), the Protocols-of-the-Elders-of-Castro-Street camp of the Church are in no position to preach to anyone about anything.
Great, more ignorance and hate instead of the Good News of Jesus Christ. What do those guys learn in seminary, anyway? Don't judge? Did they notice that Jesus stood up for the outcasts? Did they notice that Jesus himself got in trouble for not upholding the Law, hanging out with the unclean, etc.?
Good to read Cheryl's post and very good indeed, to see Cheryl commenting here, again.
Archbishop Justin Welby was just here in Guatemala. I listened as hard as I could to his sermon last Sunday (a sermon btw that departed greatly from the neutral sounding words published on his website). The ABC stressed reconciliation at ¨Church¨ (meaning ¨Communion¨ also). Otherwise WE will destroy the ¨Church¨ (Communion?).
I suggest that Archbishop Stanley of Uganda listen closely to the words of OUR new Archbishop of Canterbury delivered at Santiago Cathedral, Guatemala City in English and perfectly translated Spanish (even when he went off prepared sermon):
¨When injustice is normal we must resist with Spirit of Christ¨ TOGETHER (my emphasis).
¨Begin to reach out to our enemies in the face of real anger and differences¨ Take real/physical action to reestablish everyday communication (example was given of angry/bitter Anglican priests in Africa extending themselves to their enemies by buying their bread).
¨God will break down ALL (my emphasis) barriers between us if we genuinely want to be reconciled one to the other¨
¨A Church (Anglican Communion?) seeking REAL (my emphasis) justice will find a way. We must work with what we have at hand and hold differences in tension between us equally.
¨Do what you can and not what you ought not and let God´s will¨ resolve our problems through God´s reconciliation is the way. God breaks down all barriers.¨
Archbishop Stanley, I´ve got some good/fresh bread for sale, what can I buy from you?
Whilst Archbishop Ntagali probably believes what he says he is really playing to the GAFCON gallery and most especially to his ACNA mentors.
Thank you, Leonardo, for the first hand report!
"The archbishop said the Anglican Church is built on the doctrines of Biblical teaching which only recognize hetero-sexual relationships." - Report -
The Anglican Church then does not recognise the same-sex relationship of David and Jonathan, Jesus and John? These relationship are same-sex and loving to a remarkable degree. All in the Bible, too!
Trouble is, the GAFCON leaders are so caught up in the mechanics of sexuality they have failed to recognise the validity of love between two people who happen to share the same gender.
Thank you Laurence. My love for justice and fairness is not diminished by the number of postings (or lack thereof). Have kept an eye on this website. Did not need to directly intervene for some time. Australian Christianity is currently undergoing a Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse. Lots of stuff is coming out. The sociopaths were clever, they limited it to abuse within church jurisdiction which meant a whole lot of victims (including myself) could not testify.
Just to remind you, and all Jews and Christians. David and Jonathon could not have had their hugging scene if David's wife had not warned David of the impending threats to his life, or her hiding his disappearance by lumps in the bed that she were pretended were him. Saul turned her into nothing more than a consort and it is a tragedy of both Christianity and Judaism that they failed to recognise that David survived because of her sacrifice. He repudiated her dignity when he returned to the city dancing naked in the street, failing to recognise she had saved his life or the humiliation her "father" imposed on her thereafter.
Thank you, Richard Ashby, for that link. With God's help, maybe the courts can stem the tide of a handful of rich and powerful people exporting hate.
Here in the US, these guys were like the Dutch boy with his finger in the dike. But somehow, finally, the conscience of the people is emerging. At long last.
I would like to remind the archbishop, The doctrines of the AC are decided by an equal balance of the Scriptures, Tradition and Reason. His views do not take a reasonable account of the recent science of the human person, sexuality and how humans grow and develop.
>> “We have a new Archbishop of Canterbury who is born again and has a testimony.
Well praise the Lord, and pass the okra to the field workers. Otherwise, though, that ain't the language of Anglicans. It's the language of an American group of religionists working in Africa. And the Africans have clearly learned to speak as their American puppet masters have taught them.
>> “We have a new Archbishop of Canterbury who is born again and has a testimony.'
Yes, well of course, he has been baptized - like all the archbishops before him !

I'd like to know what a "confessing Anglican" is. Describing ourselves as a "confessing" church was precisely what we declined following our ongoing conversations with Luther and his followers in the 16th Century. That's why The Anglican perspective chose the more comprehensive 39 Articles, the Elizabethan Settlement and the catholicism of the Restoration rather than something like the Augsburg Confession. If the so-called Anglicans of Uganda and other places want a confessing church or a fundamentalist evangelical church, plenty of them are available - only you won't get to dress up in copes and miters in most of them.
