Comments: Still more comments on the Pilling report

How interesting that the so called 'Anglican Mainstream' is not allowing comments.

Scary

A real way forward for the churches' ministers.

"The report draws a boundary that gay relationships should be 'permanent, faithful, stable' but since it has reached a conclusion that Scripture cannot be trusted, there is no explanation of why this boundary should be in place, and why further ground will not be conceded in a short space of time."

There's good precedent for this, of course. Quickly after the church permitted marriage after divorce, it officially approved polygamy, incest, sex with children, and lewd Saturday night baccanals in the sanctuary.

Oh, all that didn't happen after all? Oh well, never mind ...

"It is sad that anyone who does not support the ministry of gay and lesbians ... is considered homophobic."

Yep, that's what the word means. Should we be surprised at this point that GAFCon is more saddened by the lexicography of homophobia than by its existence?

Whited sepulchres come to mind. What gospel Are they talking about? That which supports our mutual ministering to one another as flawed human beings seeking the grace of God or the comfortable rule bound ideology which serves to confirm Gafcon and the like in their sense of moral superiority? Which would Jesus choose?

Richard -

Anglican Mainstream NEVER allows comments - it couldn't cope with the volume of criticism it would generate if it did!

The adherents of GAFCON are welcome to read, use and legislate from the bible in any way that suits their views and their household. They are even free, I suppose, to appropriate and append the label "Anglican" onto their views. However, their anti-intellectual, anti-scientific use of biblical text to forward a Bronze-Age worldview is, at the very least, insulting to the very term, "Anglican" - and even more so to Anglican history and process.

Thank heavens for the See of Pontefract.

Posted by Revd Laurie Roberts at Saturday, 14 December 2013 at 12:27am GMT

The Bishop of Pontefract says neither "nowt nor summat" as they'd say in Yorkshire. We can but hope that any future comment is more substantial and contains greater substance.
