Nor were any sources at all cited in this article: Liberal and weak clergy blamed for empty pews but for those who want to know where this comes from the answer is http://www.churchsurvey.co.uk/. Readers can judge the validity of the survey for themselves.

A great leader of men. When he became Sussex captain they went from nowhere to missing the 1953 championship by a whisker; and next year he was captain of England at 25.

He had little natural talent but bags of character – a good advertisement for the muscular Christianity ethos and the view that sport breeds (rather than reveals) character.

A great example of real-world integrated Christianity.
