The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Susan Helen Jones, BEd, MPhil, PhD, Residentiary Canon at Derby Cathedral and Director of Mission and Ministry in the Diocese of Derby, to be appointed to the Deanery of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Liverpool, on the elevation of the Very Reverend Peter Jonathan Wilcox, MA, DPhil as Bishop of Sheffield on 23 September 2017.

Only just noticed, these notices simply say The Queen rather than Her Majesty The Queen. Informality is getting everywhere.

Without knowing any more about her than what is stated here, it looks to me that this is an excellent appointment!

Kate, this is not new. Certainly since 2010 (and I believe for many years before that but I can’t find the archives to search back any further) the form for the Press Releases from Number 10 for all appointments civil, judicial and ecclesiastical has been simply “The Queen has been pleased to ….” Personally, I don’t find that informal but each to her/his own understanding of formality.

“Without knowing anything more about her…” says David Emmott. Ask around Bangor Cathedral, where she was Dean (interestingly not mentioned in the statement) and I sang in the choir. You will hear plenty about her there, David.
