Michael will be fantastic. As a geriatric doctoral student at Durham, I have found him so pastorally supportive. That is his gift, please keep him away from faculty bureaucracy which wastes so much time for good archdeacons!!!

I don’t know the Deam of Carlisle, but he may paradoxically have done the church a greater service by modelling this kind of vulnerability and decisiveness than even the most distinguished deanship would have given.

Apart from ill health where there are procedures What happens to clergy of all ranks who retire or stand down this early from retirement? When they arguably have time for one more full time appointment. i get it when they are 68 + they should have housing etc sorted
Clearly a sad situation, but Michael Everitt will be a safe and gifted person to step in.

On reading the Diocesan announcement, the Dean is looking for another priestly appointment!
