Nazir-Ali’s comments on what it is to be church as reported in Paul Handley’s blog sum up entirely the problem with GAFCON (and, in a different way, with some liberal voices in the communion). He repeats over and over again the phrase ‘some people want church to be X Y or Z’, and clearly indicates this is OK. Whatever happened to becoming the church God wants us to be? It seems ironic that GAFCONites are becoming pro-choice and pro-individualist rather than community-based, God-orientated Christians who believe in self-sacrifice not pursuing the comfort of what one wants.

The telegraph sub-ediitors seem not to be talking to each other – the titles of Martin Beckford’s two articles are mutually contradictory. But why let consistency get in the way of a good headline?

All the talk about remaining in the Anglican Communion – in communion with Canterubry but not in communion with the naughty provinces – is incomprehensible. The Archbishop of Canterbury is supposed to be a symbol of unity; you can’t have a partial unity based on communion with him. It’s time for the AC to tell the GAFCONians that they are either in, or they’re out, but to make up their mind.

After five years of being on the brink of schism, with the crescendo building up to GAFCON, we are now faced with….a damp squib! Given this massive U-turn , shouldn’t this eccentric coterie of hard-line prelates be renamed NOCFAG?

Remember GAFCON speak…not means will.

Remember GAFCON was billed as not an alternative to the lambeth Cobnference…but it obviously is.

What will be on the GAFCON table will be billed as not a schism, but it will.
