Archbishop welcomes bishops’ statement on Malawi sentencing

The Archbishop of Canterbury welcomes the statement made by the Anglican Bishops in Southern Africa regarding the sentencing of Stephen Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga to 14 years of hard labour.

*ABC speaks about Malawi* No! He didn’t! He “welcomes” someone else’s condemnation. What does *that* mean? I welcome Jehovah’s Witnesses when they come to my door! He’s able to write a whole missive on people who should remove themselves from his little Brito-papacy, yet *not one word* of condemnation of the inhumane and unholy treatment given to these two men and gays and lesbians in general throughout those same African provinces he’s puckered up for! Golly, this must certainly have Monjeza and Tiwonge’s persecutors shaking in their boots!
Rowan William’s “welcoming” another bishops comments does not go nearly far enough. Shame on him again. Cowardly is an understatement. Way too little and way too late. Sad, that Rowan has lost his spine. I thought he might show some real courage and stand up and be counted. Another missed opportunity.
How could he have said less?

I am delighted to see that an international protest and a timely visit of the UN Secretary General have led to their release
