In Church Times Michael Palin writes about churches that have meant the most to him in my seven of the best, and there is this leading article: A church definition.

John Dear Huffington Post Honoring Oscar Romero of El Salvador
Michael Palin’s is a beautiful piece and ought to have wide resonance beyond church circles. I say ‘ought’, but I’m afraid I think this whole culture is dying.
Wonderful article by Michael Palin, the “agnostic with doubts”. I recently visited Uluru and this sacred place’s Mutitjulu waterhole is as magnificent a cathedral as anything I’ve seen anywhere.
Thank you so much for the link to John Dear’s article, Honoring Oscar Romero of El Salvador.
What a lovely pilgrimage through some delightful churches, described by Michael Palin. I think he is right when he suggests that such buildings need to be fostered by the Church and offered as places of refuge from outside noise and business. This is often where people like Michael – who professes no particular religious faith – can meet with God in the silence.
