I was interested in Anthony Smith’s reflections and am very heartened to read such a positive evaluation of what is a very demanding but hugely worthwhile sphere of ministry. I wish him very well and all strength. Having trodden this path a generation ago, I have some insight into what it means and what it feels like. The first thing I notice is that he describes himself as a multi-church vicar – I was a multi-parish vicar. That difference shows itself in what he talks about.
