I am delighted that Linda has been elected Primate. she is a quiet, careful and confident person with the ability to listen. I would have been delighted if Jane had been elected as well. Such different characters, but both wonderful people.

I’d encourage folks to read The Primate elect/Linda Nicholls’ statement. Embedded in The Statement is a link to the document, A Word to the Church, which was passed at our General Synod. This document provides a great deal of context about the Canadian situation regarding same sex marriages including why, despite the failure to amend The Marriage Canon, diocesan bishops are allowed to authorize same sex marriages, and why some have been doing so with the support of their diocese.

I couldn’t be happier that Linda has been elected as our new primate. I’m also not sad that in the Diocese of Edmonton we’ll get to keep Jane as our bishop!
